Pictures of You (2020) A cat, when it’s outside of the house they become an unknown entity. As a cat owner himself, De Laet was always fascinated by this. The works visually explores the life of the cat. Fueled by De Laet’s further interests with the ambiguity of the photographic medium and it’s ability to create a photographic context. Cumulating into a book project where he experiments with sequencing.

A photobook is normally made when a work is almost near completion. De Laet started to make the photobook whilst simultaneously starting the project having almost no images yet. The work was made like a writer writing a novel, by laying one brick at a time. De Laet thusly plays with the concept of other mediums like writing. But most importantly music, whilst it can’t be literally present in a photobook, it can be present in our minds by the work. Conceptually it plays with motives like fascination, banality, memories and tragedy.

The work is an ode to Molly, De Laet’s cat which towards the end of the project died.
